Hello,

A friendly reminder to please RSVP for this Sunday’s game using the web site or app ASAP. Coaches use the RSVPs to plan our lineup prior to the game so we can focus our attention on coaching on game day. We also only have a couple of subs, so this helps us to know if we are going to have enough players to field a full team.

Game Day Safety Protocols

  • Players: All players are to check in at the picnic table prior to every game (and practice). They are required to wear their mask from when they exit their car until they are out on the field playing. Players will not be allowed to participate without submitting a completed safety questionnaire.

  • Spectators: All spectators are required to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose while on the field, regardless of their distance from others. If a spectator is unable to wear a mask, we ask that they please watch the game from their car. Also, please keep your distance - sit at least 6 feet away from other families.

We appreciate you following these game day safety protocols so we can keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible this season! We’ll see you this Sunday at the cove at 12:30 p.m. (game time is 1 p.m.)

Field hockey safety protocols, schedule
by posted 09/17/2020

Good morning,

In an effort to keep our players and coaches safe and healthy this season, we are asking that everyone follow these protocols:

  • Safety Questionnaire: Prior to each practice/game, please check in with our designated safety parent, Caroline Butler (Molly’s mom), and provide her with a completed copy of the safety questionnaire. If you do not have a hardcopy, she will have extras on hand that you can fill out. Players cannot participate without a completed questionnaire.

  • Masks: Players are to wear a mask when they arrive at the field, check in, and during announcements at the beginning of practice.

  • Sideline Distancing: Players should place their belongings six feet away from one another on the sidelines to maintain proper social distancing when preparing to play and during water breaks.

Upcoming Schedule

  • We’ll see you at practice tonight at the Cove from 5:30- 7.

  • Our first game (Blue vs Gray) is this Sunday at the Cove (please arrive at 12:30, game begins at 1). If you have not RSVP’d, please do so ASAP either via the web site or using the app. Players should wear their uniform if they have one – if not, a blue shirt (Blue team) or gray shirt (Gray team). We will be getting pinnies soon for future games. Also, ideally Blue team players should wear blue shin guard socks and Gray team, white shin guard socks. This makes it easier for the refs to make accurate calls during the game.

Thanks,

Coaches Karen, Steve & MaryAnn

Welcome to the 7th-8th Grade Blue Team
by posted 09/10/2020

Good morning,

We are so excited to get our season started! We’re keeping an eye on today’s weather – if we need to cancel due to the fields being too wet (or threat of thunderstorms), we’ll email you later this afternoon.

In the meantime, I wanted to share that our practice and tentative game schedule is now available on our web site and the SSU Play app. You’ll see that most of our games are at home against the Grey team (7th-8th graders, primarily from Glastonbury and Newington). We have limited opponent options this season, but want the girls to have as many playing opportunities as possible. Game times and locations are still being finalized – we will update the schedule ASAP.

Viewing Our Schedule & RSVPs

  • Visit wethersfieldsticks.com > Team > Choose a Team > Senior Girls 7-8 > Blue > Schedule. You’ll need to sign in to RSVP to games and access our roster. Team contacts, game results and all of our announcements are also available on the site.

  • Or, download the SSU Play app (highly recommended). If you already have the app downloaded from last season, you’ll need to log out and back in for this year’s schedule to be visible.

  • It is important that you RSVP to games through either the app or our website. We need to know ahead of time if we have enough players for each game. Coaches also use these RSVPs to coordinate starting line-ups, and rotations prior to the game. If a player has not RSVP’d at least one hour prior to a game, coaches cannot guarantee significant playing time in that game due to the difficulty of trying to restructure line-ups while coaching a game.

Uniforms

  • This year we are planning to order pinnies to wear during practices and games. If you have a uniform from last year, you may wear it to games until the pinnies arrive. If you do not have a uniform, please wear navy athletic apparel to games.

Required Equipment

  • Field hockey stick
  • Shin guards (field hockey specific shin guards are recommended as they offer ankle protection from sticks/balls)
  • Goggles (field hockey specific goggles are recommended as this type will be required when moving up to high school – they are different than lacrosse goggles)
  • Mouth guard
  • Cleats
  • One practice ball (please put your name on it)
  • Water bottle

Safety

  • We encourage families to use their best judgment when deciding whether to participate in practices and games. More information about screening for symptoms and risk for COVID will be provided at our first practice.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of us with questions. Looking forward to a great season!

Field hockey payment and waiver
by posted 09/08/2020

Hi all-

Before your daughters practice tomorrow night we will need to collect payment for the season, and we will need you to sign our COVID-19 waiver.   I will have a table set up and Lauren Barbara and I will be stationed there to answer questions and to take your paperwork/money.  Disregard what you think you might owe and bring a check or cash for 125.00 made payable to Wethersfield Youth Field Hockey.   This is a COVID-19 bonus ... A low flat rate as a way to say thank your for your patience while we work out the kinks in this unprecedented season.

We will see 5-6 players Wednesday @5:30 and the 7-8 players on Thursday @5:30

Hello 7th/8th grade and families! I must start with an apology for the delay in reaching about this year's season. As you can imagine, the board and coaches have gone back and forth about what this season would look like and if we could even have a season at all. That being said, we are so excited to try to make the most of this year with practices and a few games. For those of you who have played with us before, you will notice that this season will look a little different from years past. I promise to communicate the most up-to-date information as soon as it becomes available.

For now, I can share that:

  • Practices: will be at Cove Park in Wethersfield on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:00 (this time will be adjusted as it begins to get darker earlier). Our first practice is this Thursday, Sept. 10.

  • Equipment: please bring a field hockey stick, ball, eye guard, mouth guard, shin guards and water bottle. You will also need a mask and hand sanitizer. Please label everything.

  • Safety: for the safety of your teammates and coaches, players must wear a mask when walking to/from the field and while on the sidelines. Players will not be required to wear a mask while practicing. Coaches will be wearing masks at all times.

  • Games: information will be coming soon.

Please feel free to contact any of the coaches with questions or concerns. We’re looking forward to a great season!
